Celebrate one of the highlights of the 20th Century - the Chevrolet Automobile - with the 20th Century Chevy, Inc. Car Club

Whether it's a 1938 Chevy Big Block Coupe, a 1965 Chevy II or a 2002 ZO6 Corvette, the folks at 20th Century Chevy, Inc. love looking at them, driving them, restoring them, and displaying them. 20th Century Chevy, Inc. is a car club in Washington, Indiana that enjoys many types of cars - Chevys and other makes. The club celebrates the 20th Century and one of its greatest highlights - the Chevy automobile.

A brief club history

For more than 35 years, the club has sponsored and participated in many car shows and events, parades, contests, and more. It all started on September 17, 1970 when several car enthusiasts decided to form a car club at Les's Poolroom on S.E. Third Street in Washington, Indiana.

Three years later, the club bought a small house with two rooms that was located near the Oak Grove Cemetery, outside the city limits. The house has since been remodeled and expanded to more than 1600 square feet with heating and cooling. It's now a comfortable, spacious club facility where members hold meetings each week. Also added was a two-car heated garage.

Since its beginnings, the club has expanded its purpose and goals to help in the community with charity work. Today, the club is involved in several projects that bring benefits to the community, including Christmas charities and parades. During the Christmas season, the club will buy and collect gifts and food for the less fortunate in the area.

20th Century Chevy, Inc. Club operations

The club operates with officers that are assigned to certain duties. Officers include the club president, vice president, a treasurer, a secretary, and a Sergeant at Arms. There are also several advisors and an officer to handle refreshments. Those interested in joining the club will find contact information at the club's website.

Fun events for all

What good is a car club without fun? 20th Century Chevy, Inc. offers many fun activities throughout the year. Here are just a few.

Annual Carfest & Cruiz-In

The club's Annual Carfest & Cruiz-In is steadily growing with almost 600 entries in 2005. Members and spectators get together at the Carfest for fun, food, people, and of course, great cars. Trophies and awards are presented to winners on Sunday of the Carfest. The club gives away "Top 150" Awards and other special awards including President's Choice, Mayor's Choice, Best of Show, Best Engineered, Memorial Award, Ladies' Choice, Best Engine, Best Cruiser, Best Paint, Best Chevy, Best Oldsmobile, Best MOPAR, Best Ford/Mercury, and several others.

A raffle is also held at the show for a very elaborate prize. At the 2006 Carfest, a beautiful 1976 Corvette was raffled. The winner was from Brazil, Indiana.

An Awesome Annual Cruiz-In - in conjunction with the Annual Carfest

Each year, club members get together for a fabulous Cruiz-In that is held in conjunction with the Annual Carfest. Before leaving for the tour, an exciting Participants' Dinner is held. During the Cruiz-In, members tour in their cars around town in some of the nicest neighborhoods around. They also cruise through the downtown district and on Main Street, and then return to the park (starting point for the tour) for a musical variety show. At the show, look-alike stars (actually participating club members) can strut their stuff on stage and sing to their heart's content. Attendees can buy t-shirts and concessions at the show as well. This is one of the biggest (and oldest) Cruiz-Ins around. Registration information is available at the club's website.

Food Tours

Yummy. Members of 20th Century Chevy, Inc. get to try out new restaurants often with the club's Food Tours. Beginning in 1999, the club has traveled to different area restaurants and pubs just to try out some great foods and to keep things interesting. A list of where they've been and where they're going next can be found at the club's website.

BUNYANIZIN' - An event for those who enjoy roughin' it.

Another fun annual event for those who love the great outdoors is called "Bunyanizin'." This event started with a fishing contest held by a small group of club members in 1984. They stayed overnight with tents and a campfire and had lots of fun. In 1989, the club organized another camp-out and the annual Bunyanizin' event was officially started. They call it Bunyanizin' because it's a time for club members to express the outdoorsmen inside and to do all that daring Paul Bunyan stuff.

Today, club members take their campers along instead of tents and many camping supplies. The event includes a fish fry, a pond tour, great fishing, prizes, and more.

20th Century Chevy, Inc. Web site

The club's web site offers information about events (past and present), a great photo gallery of members' cars, club history, charitable event information, and more. It also features a guest book for members and visitors to sign and read.

Those who love classic Chevrolets or other models will find the club to be adventurous, educational, and helpful. Restoring old cars is no fun if you can't share your passion with others. 20th Century Chevy, Inc. makes it possible.
